Episode 134: Lee Ranaldo and Don Fleming

Lee & Don & Robin HBO’s Vinyl is gone, but its splendid soundtrack endures. “’I always seek out experts,’ said Randall Poster, one of the show’s music supervisors, who enlisted the Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo to help him build up the punk bona fides on Vinyl. Mr. Ranaldo brought on his own frequent collaborators, including studio veterans with a fondness for ’70s New York like the guitarist and producer Don Fleming.” – The NY Times. On this episode, produced with Humanities NY, Don Fleming and Lee Ranaldo talk musical archaeology and the unexpected influence of a band called Jack Ruby.
